U.S. Department of Agriculture Warning Salads From Kroger, Trader Joe's, Walgreens Due To Parasite Contamination

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is warning against buying more than two dozen types of salads and wraps at Kroger, Trader Joe's and Walgreens due to possible parasite contamination.

A public health alert was issued Monday, with the agency saying certain beef, pork and poultry salad and wraps might have cyclospora contamination.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said this causes intestinal illness about a week or so after consumption, and can include diarrhea and frequent or explosive bowel movements. It can also cause loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps or pain, nausea, gas and fatigue, the CDC added. Vomiting, headache, fever, body aches and flu-like symptoms are also possible.

The USDA said in its alert the issue was discovered after Indianapolis-based food distributor Caito Foods "received notification from their lettuce supplier, Fresh Express, that the chopped romaine that is used to manufacture some of their salads and wraps was being recalled."

Here's the list of recalled products. The salads and wraps were produced between July 15 and 18 and the "Best by," "Enjoy by," "Best if sold by" or "Sell by" dates will range between July 18 and July 23. Throw these products away if you have them. Take a look at the labels to see if you recognize any of the products.
