Police Investigating Shooting At Super 8 Motel

A woman was shot during an accidental shooting in North Knoxville.

The shooting happened around 11:50 p.m. Thursday at the Super 8 Motel, 341 Merchant Drive.

The woman's husband had called 911 and said someone had shot through the window of the motel room and struck his wife. When officers arrived they found the woman lying on a bed that had been shot in the knee.

Officers applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding until EMT's arrived to transport the victim to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the victim's husband repeatedly said he was unaware who had shot his wife. Upon additional questioning he admitted he owned a handgun and kept it inside his vehicle. The victim's husband said that he was attempting to unload the weapon while inside his vehicle when it went off hitting his wife.

The man told police he panicked and hid the weapon then called 911. Officers were able to located the handgun and three magazines inside the vehicle which were confiscated for the investigation.
