Manhunt Underway After Dickson County Deputy Shot and Killed

Investigators are searching for a person of interest after a deputy was shot and killed in Dickson County.


Authorities told WTVF a manhunt for person of interest Steven Wiggins is underway after a Dickson County deputy was found dead in a patrol car at 7a.m. Wednesday. The deputy was responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle.

At a news conference, the Dickson County Sheriff spoke about the deputy who was killed.

"He's one of the guys who put his life on the line everyday," the sheriff said.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a Tennessee Blue Alert, and said Wiggins may be on foot and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Wiggins has also been placed on the TBI's Top 10 Most Wanted list. Authorities said there is now a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his arrest.

The Dickson County Sheriff said they were heartbroken, but determined to find Wiggins.

“It is my prayer to God that our court will be a terror to him [suspect] on the punishment he receives,” the sheriff said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were initially looking for the Wiggins in the area of Bear Creek Valley Road and Tidwell Switch Road.

"We've got a lot of work to do, and we'll be here as long as it takes to do it," the sheriff said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Steven Wiggins has been urged to call 911 or 1-800-TBI-FIND.

According to the TBI, the reward for information leading to Wiggins' arrest stands at $7,500.
