Friendsville Man Dies In Motorcycle Crash In Blount County

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The sheriff's office said a Friendsville man has died following a motorcycle crash that occurred Friday evening in Blount County.

John Greene, 60, of Friendsville, died shortly after being transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for injuries caused by a motorcycle crash. His wife and fellow passenger, 60-year-old Randi Greene, is in stable condition, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.

Just after 6 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to reports of a crash near the area of West Lamar Alexander Parkway at Lane Drive. Following an investigation, it was revealed that the two were traveling west on a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle when an 88-year-old man driving a 2009 Lexus SUV and his 76-year-old passenger drove into their path while attempting to cross the westbound lanes of West Alexander Parkway to get to Lane Drive.

According to the sheriff's office, the impact caused the motorcycle and car to go off the right side of the highway. The driver and passenger of the SUV were not injured.

Both John and Randi Greene were taken by AMR to UT Medical Center where Randi Greene remains in stable condition. Both, officials said, were wearing DOT approved motorcycle helmets.
