Knoxville Police Charges Man With Stabbing Man On Sevier Avenue

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville Police Department has charged a man with stabbing a man found dead Friday at a home on Sevier Avenue.

KPD said first responders arrived at a home in the 2300 block of Sevier Avenue at 3:48 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of a deceased person, later identified as 50-year-old William Innes. One of his roommate said he found Innes unresponsive on the living room floor

Evidence gathered at the scene and through an investigation led KPD to Innes' other roommate, 44-year-old Steven Simpson. Witnesses told KPD Simpson had a drug habit, and arrest records allege Simpson stabbed Innes several times before taking his wallet and cash. Investigators say Simpson threw out his bloody clothing and knife as well. KPD arrested him later in the parking lot of a west Knoxville business.

Simpson has been charged with first degree murder and especially aggravated robbery. He is being held at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility of a $150,000 bond.
