Knoxville Marathon To Bring 9,000 Runners More Than 30 Road Closures This Weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon will bring as many as 9,000 runners and more than 30 road closures and no-parking zones to the city this weekend.

Drivers should be aware that roads along the routes for the kids run on Saturday, March 24, and the 5K, half marathon, relays and full marathon on Sunday, March 25 may be completely closed or experience rolling closures.

Starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, no parking will be allowed on Clinch Avenue between World's Fair Park Drive and 17th Street. Beginning Sunday, March 25, no parking will be allowed between 6 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on the northbound lanes of Gay Street and Summit Hill Drive. Parking will be allowed at these locations after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The northbound lanes of Gay Street between Blount Avenue and Summitt Hill Drive will be closed to traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Several roads will be affected along the marathon course, spanning from Forest Park Boulevard in Bearden, south to Ijams Nature Center and east through the Fourth and Gill neighborhood and Parkridge.

Several spots along the marathon route will also host live music and cheering sections to entertain and motivate runners as they pass. Find a complete list of road closures here. The City of Knoxville suggests drivers should look at the marathon map to plan ahead and find alternate routes through the city.
