First Tennessee Bank On Merchants Latest Victim Of String Of Bank Robberies In Knox County Past Few Days

The Knoxville Police Department, working with the Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, asked for the public's help in identifying the man who robbed the First Tennessee Bank located on Merchants Drive on Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene for reports of a bank robbery at around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the FBI, law enforcement agencies responded to the robbery at approximately 1:14 p.m. Tuesday.

Reports indicated that white male entered the First Tennessee Bank and brandished and discharged a handgun while demanding cash. No injuries were reported.

After the suspect obtained an undetermined amount of money, the FBI said the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect was described as a white male, standing approximately 6'0", with a slender build, light colored hair and dark sunglasses. The suspect was also wearing a baseball cap with "VOLS" written on it in orange, as well as a red and black plaid flannel jacket.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating a bank robbery that happened Monday at the SunTrust Bank on Andrew Johnson Highway in Knoxville. Authorities have not linked the two incidents at this time.
