Monroe Authorities Capture Escaped Inmate Near Athens
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office and US Marshal Service's Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force found escaped inmate Ricky Dale Dotson II in the Super 8 Motel, located at 2541 Decatur Pike in Athens on Monday night.
Deputies say Dotson ran off after hopping the razor wire fence that surrounds the recreation yard of the Monroe County Jail at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday. A corrections officer allegedly tried to grab his foot, but couldn't keep a hold of it.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Dotson, 28, was in jail on aggravated burglary charges and had a court date set for Feb. 20. Dotson has now been charged with escape. He is expected to appear in court on Feb. 13 for the escape charges.
