Tennessee Highway Patrol Seizes 50 Pounds of Cocaine After Traffic Stop Near Nashville

On Wednesday, January 31, a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper stopped a rental vehicle on Interstate 40 in Dickson County for a traffic violation. The trooper spoke with both occupants and observed several signs of stress from them.

Another trooper responded to the scene, and both troopers discovered there was a possible full extradition warrant for the passenger, 52-year-old William Jones of Toledo, Ohio. The driver, 54-year-old Joseph Martinez of Toledo denied the troopers consent to search the vehicle they were in.

While waiting to verify the extradition warrant, one trooper spoke with Jones and gained verbal consent to search his two bags that were inside the vehicle. THP said one of the bags contained 20 kilos (47.5 pounds) of cocaine.

Both Martinez and Jones were arrested for possession of cocaine for resale or delivery, and they were transported to the Dickson County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) for booking.

THP said Jones' warrant was verified after he was arrested, and he will be extradited to Ohio. DEA Agents also responded to the scene, and THP said the case would be presented to the Assistant United States Attorney's Office (AUSA).
