Campbell County Authorities Investigating Unidentifed Human Remains Near Speedwell

Campbell County authorities are investigating after a person stumbled upon unidentified human remains in the Speedwell area.

Deputies were dispatched to 2013 Hollow Road in Speedwell to investigate on Saturday, Dec. 2 just before 3:00 p.m. They said a person led them to the location of the badly deteriorated remains in a mountainous, wooded area.

Deputies said this is still a preliminary investigation and that it's unlikely the remains are related to any active missing persons investigations within the jurisdiction.

So far, no gender race or approximate age have been medically confirmed at this time. Authorities said they sent the remains to the medical examiner for autopsy and it could take time to learn more about the identity of the remains.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents are working with the Campbell County's Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
