46-Year Old Kodak Man Dead In Highway 66 Crash In Sevier County

Emergency personnel responded to a reported single vehicle crash at approximately 4:50AM this morning, Thursday, November 2, 2017 on Highway 66 in north Sevierville. The crash occurred in the southbound shoulder near 3385 Winfield Dunn Parkway (Hwy. 66). The driver of the vehicle, 46-year old Kenneth M. Altman of Kodak, died apparently as a result of the crash; there were no passengers.

According to Sevierville Police Department Sgt. Phillip West, witnesses stated that a Ford Taurus traveling east on Interstate 40 was being driven erratically, exited at the 407 interchange and proceeded south on Highway 66. The Taurus reportedly almost collided with another vehicle on Highway 66 just before veering onto the shoulder and immediately impacting a concrete retaining wall. The vehicle caught on fire after impact and other motorists pulled the driver from the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
