President Trump on Thursday
cancelled the highly anticipated summit with North Korea that was set
for next month, calling the talks “inappropriate” following the
“hostility” displayed in latest comments from dictator Kim Jong Un. The
move to pull out of the summit, slated to take place in Singapore on
June 12, came after threats from Kim to call off the talks. In a letter
to Kim on Thursday, Trump said the world, and North Korea, has lost a
"great opportunity for lasting peace and great prosperity."
“Based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most
recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this
long-planned meeting,” Trump wrote in a letter to Kim on Thursday.
“Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore
summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world,
will not take place.”
North Korea for days has questioned whether the summit would go forward
trying to posture and
Earlier today, Vice Minister of the North Korean Foreign Ministry, Choe
Son Hui, also said that whether the U.S. "will meet us at a meeting room
or encounter us at nuclear-to-nuclear showdown is entirely dependent
upon the decision and behavior of the United States," according to South
Korea's Yonhap News Agency.
The official also insulted Vice President Pence after he said North
Korea had asked for the meeting.
"As a person involved in the U.S. affairs, I cannot suppress my surprise
at such ignorant and stupid remarks gushing out from the mouth of the
U.S. vice president," Choe reportedly said.
Officials told news outlets across the country that it was the threat of
nuclear war -- not the insult to Pence -- that led to the summit
pullout.
“You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and
powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used,” Trump
wrote to Kim. “If you change your mind having to do with this most
important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write. The world,
and North Korea in particular, has lost a great opportunity for lasting
peace and great prosperity and wealth.”
Trump added: “This missed opportunity is truly a sad moment in history.”
"There was a difference when Kim Jong Un left China the second time,"
said Trump at an appearance alongside South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
"I can't say that I'm happy about it."
And there folks is the
difference between true leadership and what America had during the past
eight years under Barrack Obama.
It's something that Kim
Jung Un learned today as well. The North Korean dictator may think he
can act like a petulant child as he has in the past but he cannot.
This is not some call to play in a sandbox and scream when you have your
shovel taken from you. This was about the security of not just the
Korean peninsula, but the entire world! President Trump always
understood that, North Korea's leader did not.
In the past this meeting
would have happened for the cameras and Obama would have taken a victory
lap that major strides had been made in the U.S.-North Korea
relationship. I mean just look at how Obama handled Iran and Cuba. To
hear the liberal media speak those two events in the Obama foreign
policy were likened to D-Day in the Second World War.
President Trump is not
Obama and thank God for it.
The time for staged
photo opportunities and false promises is over.
The Dems this morning
are already spinning this as a "failure" on the part of the Trump
White House. Crooked Bob Menendez (D-NJ) took a shot at the Trump
administration in his opening statement at a hearing with Secretary of
State Mike Pompeo this morning. Menendez and the Democrats would be wise
not to gloat too much. They too are dealing with Donald J. Trump - the
author of the "art of the deal."
This is not a sad day
for America. It's a sad day for North Korea. They slammed an open door
of opportunity for peace because their leader is a psychopath. That is
who is to blame for this, not our President.
It may seem like it's
back to the drawing board. I'd say it's more like this is what foreign
policy looks like when adults are in charge. The score is President
Trump and America winning, North Korea and China in the loser's bracket.
I got my bets on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, how about you?
