LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) -- A woman was arrested
after officials said she tried to shoplift from Walmart by using
children to smuggle items out around 2:15 Monday morning.
Walmart management called officials after employees tried to stop
Marlena Carter from shoplifting, and she ran into a bathroom,
authorities said.
When deputies arrived, Carter had returned to her three children.
The Walmart manager told the deputies Carter was using the self-checkout
line when the manager suspected she was not scanning all of her items.
They noticed Carter had a small receipt for several buggies of items.
Employees said they found Carter had wrapped several layers of clothes,
bras and shoes around her children under their clothes. She had a total
of $768.43 worth of merchandise.
Carter was charged with shoplifting more than $500 but less than
$10,000. She was also charged with second-degree unlawful transaction
with a minor. She was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center. |
