NOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Officers
arrested a Knoxville mother after they say her 4-year-old child found
her unconscious in the restroom their hotel room, "with a loaded syringe
sticking out of her right hand."
The Knoxville Police Department responded to the Extended Stay America,
1700 Winston Road, at 3:28 p.m. April 21 and found the child standing in
the hallway with other hotel guests. She allegedly told officers that
after finding her mother, 29-year-old Renee Hudson, in the restroom, she
went outside and wandered around for a while before hotel management
found her and called KPD.
Upon entering the room, officers said they found Hudson in the restroom
with drug paraphernalia such as syringes and metal spoons covered in
pink residue in the sink and toilet tank lid.
According to the arrest report, an officer touched Hudson's sternum and
she immediately responded and woke up. Upon further inspection of the
restroom, officers aid they found pills believed to be oxycodone and
alprazolam in a silver container. Officers searched the rest of the
hotel room and said they found about 30 used syringes, four spoons with
pink residue, two empty suboxone packets and three straws with residue —
KPD said all these items were easily accessible to the child.
KPD officers said Hudson had legal prescriptions of oxycodone and
alprazolam, however "the pills were being used inappropriately through
injection and inhalation through the nose."
The child's father allegedly came to pick her up after Hudson was placed
under arrest. According to arrest records, the Department of Children's
Services will be notified of the incident.
Hudson has been charged with abuse, neglect or endangerment of a child
less than eight years old and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.
She's in jail on a $3,500 bond with a preliminary hearing set for May 1. |
