Communities Can Track Crime With New Online Tool Through TBI

Communities can now track crime better with a new online tool the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation just launched.

The CrimeInsight TOPS tool shows key data from state law enforcement agencies, and users can look through it to find anything from reports of drugs or DUIs to violent crime.

Users can select the law enforcement agency, year and specific data, and the results will show relevant charts and graphs, as well as year-to-year trends. The TOPS system currently only has data from 2001-16, however TBI plans to add 2017 data later in April.

“This platform is the next step forward in our commitment to help Tennesseans better understand the crime occurring in their communities,” said Pam Beck, who oversees Criminal Justice Information Service for the TBI. “We’ve worked hard to make sure this information is as clear and easy-to-understand as possible.”

The United States Department of Justice funded the project, and Tennessee is only one of two states offering this level and quality of public crime data.
