Knox County Sheriff's Office arrested
Antonio Cortez Williams just after 10 p.m. Sunday in front of a hotel on
Pratt Road. Investigators said they confiscated 7.5 grams of heroin and
a large amount of cash during the arrest.
Williams was charged with two counts of attempted second degree murder,
two counts of employing a firearm with the intent to go armed during a
dangerous felony, schedule I drugs, and convicted felon with possession
of a weapon in connection to Wednesday morning's incident at Weigel's.
The victim, previously identified by the Knox County Sheriff's Office as
the ex-girlfriend of Williams, told police she saw him roll down the
passenger side window of a gray Chevy Impala and start shooting at her
while she tried to make a U-turn in the Weigel's parking lot on Ball
Camp Pike. She told authorities she started driving northbound on Ball
Camp Pike while Williams followed her and kept shooting at her.
Investigators said she made a right turn on Andes Road, onto Chert Pit
Road, then onto Middlebrook Pike, Cedar Bluff Road, and another road
before turning into the Weigel's parking lot on Cedar Bluff. The victim
said she noticed she had been shot in the stomach prior to turning into
the Cedar Bluff Weigel's parking lot.
A second victim spoke to police and said he saw Williams driving an
impala with his hand out the window holding a handgun near Ball Camp
Pike. He said Williams started shooting towards his vehicle resulting in
a round entering through his driver's side window and exiting through
the back window.
A representative with Knox County Schools said several schools were
briefly placed on lockdown during the situation.
Police records say Williams has two prior felony convictions for
aggravated robbery and aggravated assault in Madison County and a
history in Knox County that includes driving while privilege suspended.
He was booked into the jail early Monday morning. He is being held in
the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on a combined bond of $775,000.
