The intersection of Broadway and Central
Street will be closed for 12 days, according to the city of Knoxville.
The closure will begin at 6 a.m. April 2 to enable Southern Construction
Inc. crews to work around the clock on storm drainage infrastructure.
Beginning Wednesday, March 28, North Central Street between Third Avenue
and North Broadway will be down to one lane. There will be flag
personnel and detour signs in place through the lane closure, which will
continue until 6 p.m. Thursday, March 29.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation said that all construction
work across the state will halt from 6 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m.
Monday, April 2, because of the Easter holiday.
Beginning April 2, the city said a detour will be in place for the
12-day Central Street and Broadway closure. Anyone driver north on
Broadway can turn right on East Fifth Avenue, and take a left on Lamar
Street to reconnect to Broadway. Anyone driving north on Central Street
can take East Fifth Avenue as well, and take a left on Broadway onto
Bearden Place to get back to Central Street.
For drivers traveling south on Broadway, the city said to take a right
on Bearden Place to Central Street, and from there turn right onto
Jennings Avenue and left to Tyson Street to get back to Broadway.
Drivers southbound on on Central will take Tyson Street to Jennings
Avenue as well, and turn left off Broadway to East Fifth Avenue to
reconnect to Central Street.
The storm drainage work is part of the $7.65 million North Central
Street Streetscapes Project. The Knoxville Utilities Board is investing
$1.85 million to upgrade gas lines, the water main and fire hydrants in
that 10-block area on Central Street between West Depot and Woodland
avenues. |
