Two Whittle Springs Middle School Students Arrested After Police Say
They Made Threats To Shoot Other Students
Two middle school students were arrested
after police say they made threats to shoot other students.
At 8:51 a.m. Tuesday, the Knoxville Police Department's school resource
officer assigned to Whittle Springs Middle School said they received
information that two Whittle Springs Middle students had threatened to
shoot Christenberry Elementary students when their fifth grade class
visited the middle school on a field trip later in the day. The
Christenberry Elementary students said the statements were made to them
while they were waiting for their bus.
The eight Christenberry Elementary students ran away from the middle
school students, according to KPD. The elementary school students
reported the threat to their bus driver who then reported the incident
to the school.
Authorities said the two middle school students were detained within 15
minutes of the threat being reported. KPD said the field trip continued
as scheduled since no weapons were found on either suspect.
The 13-year-old male middle school students were both charged with one
count of filing a false report and transported to the Richard L. Bean
Juvenile Detention Facility.
