According to the Eastern District of
Tennessee US Attorney's office, a 26-year-old Cosby man was sentenced
Tuesday for possessing stolen firearms. Rodney Shackleford was sentenced
to serve 79 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to a
one-count charge in October 2016.
According to the DA's office, two of Shackleford's accomplices,
identified as 26-year-old James Summers and 32-year-old Tiffany Gentry,
both of Newport, Tennessee, were indicted in October 2016 and charged
with possession of stolen firearms. Summers was also charged with being
a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and Gentry was charged
with lying to the government. The DA's office said Summers previously
pleaded guilty and was sentenced in November 2017 to serve 84 months in
federal prison. Gentry pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation.
According to Shackleford's plea agreement, Shackleford and Summers
burglarized a residence in Newport in February 2016 and stole, among
other things, seven firearms. One of those firearms had a high-capacity
magazine that was capable of holding 30 rounds of ammunition.
The DA's office said Summers and Gentry loaded the firearms into a
vehicle that Gentry owned. The weapons were driven back to the motel
where they were all staying, and Summers and Gentry made an agreement to
sell the weapons to one of Gentry's relatives. They were going to use
the proceeds to purchase illegal narcotics, the DA's office said. |
