The infamous Blizzard of ’93 brewed
memories of a harsh winter in East Tennessee.
"I had went with a friend’s church to a youth retreat in Nashville and
was saved that Sunday morning after we got stuck down there because of
the blizzard," Sherry Billingsley wrote on Facebook.
Other Tennesseans shared what they remembered about weathering the storm
with their loved ones, too.
"I was 16 and just started dating my husband," Megan Dunn wrote. "We got
stuck together at his apartment, and 25 years later, we're still
together; he's the love of my life, and I'll always remember blizzard of
'93."
The snowstorm blew 15 inches of snow in Knoxville, 30 inches in
Gatlinburg and a mind-blowing 60 inches on Mt. LeConte.
Now 25 years later, the snow storm isn't forecast to be as brutal
Monday, which is the anniversary of the blizzard.
Despite the plan for the weather Monday, East Tennesseans said the key
to surviving an unplanned winter storm was being around family.
"I remember walking through the snow with my Papaw and him showing me
rabbit tracks," Jessie Manning-Tucker wrote.
The last time Knoxville received a significant snowfall was on Jan. 6,
1996, when a severe nor’easter, known as the Blizzard of ’96, dumped
five inches of snow across the Tennessee Valley.
