Knox County mayoral candidate Rhonda
Gallman was arrested in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Department.
Arrest records show Gallman's bond has increased to $400,000 with the
addition of a felony charge attempting to persuade a witness or victim
from testifying.
The 50 year old is being held at the Century Regional Detention
Facility, an all-female jail in Lynwood, California.
Gallman was was arrested March 7. What led to her arrest is still
unclear at this time.
According to the California penal code, the charge of preventing or
persuading a witness or victim from testifying includes anyone who
gives, offers or promises to give a bribe for "any understanding or
agreement that the person shall not attend upon any trial or other
judicial proceeding, or every person who attempts by means of any offer
of a bribe to dissuade any person from attending upon any trial or other
judicial proceeding." The code states this is a felony.
The California penal code states that additional felony charge is
defined as one of two things. The first, someone who knowingly or
maliciously tries to prevent or dissuade a victim or witness from
testifying. Or secondly, a family member who "interceded in an effort to
protect the witness or victim," adding that this scenario "shall create
a presumption that the act was without malice."
The code states this type of charge is punishable by up to one year in
prison. A court date has been set for 8:30 a.m. March 23 in Compton
Municipal Court in Compton, California.
