Historic Downtown Restaurant Evacuated When It Fills With Smoke Friday
Night
J.C. Holdway, the nationally recognized
restaurant located at 501 Union Avenue in Downtown Knoxville, was
evacuated Friday night when it filled with smoke.
The condominiums located on the floors above the restaurant in the
building were also evacuated.
The Knoxville Fire Department arrived on scene just before 8 p.m. They
tsaid the fire was most likely caused by the HVAC unit on the roof of
the building.
KFD said it appeared the fire never made it inside the building and no
one was hurt.
Crews worked to rid the building of light smoke that lingered after it
was evacuated.
