Bus Driver Cited In School Bus Crash In NE Knoxville
Authorities responded to reports of a
school bus crash in Northeast Knoxville on Wednesday morning.
Crews with the Knoxville Police Department were called to Tazewell Pike
near Murphy Road at 7:11 a.m. to investigate the crash.
According to dispatchers, bus no. 160 was involved in the accident. A
representative with Knox County Schools said there were no children on
the bus at the time of the crash.. The bus reportedly did not receive
any damage.
The preliminary investigation states that a Dodge truck driven by
Phillip Smith was stopped at a red light in the southbound lane of
Tazewell Pike when a school bus drove forward, hitting the truck.
The bus driver identified as Charlotte Helton was not hurt. Smith
refused medical attention on the scene.
Helton was cited for following too closely, KPD reports.
