CLINTON - A Clinton High School student
was taken into custody after officials investigated a threatening note
that was found in a classroom Monday afternoon.
School resource officers and investigators with the Anderson County
Sheriff's Department, along with Clinton High School officials,
identified a 15-year-old female student who they said was responsible
for leaving the note, which included false threats of a school shooting.
The Anderson County Sheriff's Department said charges against the
student would be filed in Anderson County Juvenile Court for felony
false reports and disorderly conduct. The student was taken to the
Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center in Knoxville pending a
detention hearing.
ACSD said all reports of threats have been taken seriously by both
school officials and law enforcement agencies. Officials said additional
threats will be investigated, and responsible individuals will be
arrested and charged.
Monday's incident was the second involving a Clinton High student who
has been charged with making false reports of threats. In both cases,
ACSD said school staff, SROs and investigators quickly identified the
students behind the threats and promptly arrested them.
There are rumors on social media about a threat at CHS last night. The
threat was a hoax and the person responsible has been identified and
dealt with appropriately. There was never a danger to anyone. The safety
of our students and staff are our top priority.
