Two Johnson City women face charges in
connection to an overdose death after an investigation by special agents
with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Drug investigators working for the TBI along with the Johnson City
Police Department started investigating the drug overdose death of a
Washington County man in November.
TBI agents discovered that the man bought heroin laced with fentanyl
shortly before he died.
Police linked Tasha Williams and Darlicia Jordan to the case and alleged
they sold the batch of heroin to the victim.
In recent years, the TBI has focused relentless efforts into solving
drug cases to help combat the opioid epidemic.
“The top priority for drug dealers is making money. They don’t care
whether their customers live or die,” said T.J. Jordan, Assistant
Director of the TBI’s Drug Investigation Division. “We want dealers to
know we are coming after them, and they will face more consequences than
ever before if the drugs they’re selling kill someone.”
This week, a Washington County grand jury sent a message to drug dealers
in the area by returning indictments connecting Williams and Jordan to
the man's death.
Williams was charged with one count of reckless homicide, one count of
sale of schedule I controlled substance in a drug-free school zone, one
count of delivery of schedule 1 controlled substance in a drug-free
school zone, and maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are sold.
Jordan was charged with one count of reckless homicide, one count of
sale of schedule 1 controlled substance in a drug-free school zone, and
one count of delivery of schedule 1 controlled substance in a drug-free
school zone. |
