Medical Center: 12 Reported Deaths From Flu This Season
The University of Tennessee Medical Center
in Knoxville reported 12 deaths from the flu this season. Most patients
reportedly also suffered from another disease or illness.
Just over 25% of flu tests in the state were positive for the week
ending on February 17. In recent weeks, 63 of the 95 Tennessee counties
had at least one resident with the flu.
On a national level, flu levels saw a slight decrease in the latest
FluView report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
However, the CDC said overall flu activity still remains high across the
country and is likely to stay elevated for weeks ahead.
Health care professionals have local news outlets a list of best health
habits that could help prevent the flu in your family:
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water or use an alcohol based hand
sanitizer
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Stay home if you are sick
