"She's afraid to go to school. She
basically fears for her life.”
It’s a reaction no parent ever wants to hear. But it's what this mom
says her child told her after hearing a slew of profanities from her
math teacher.
It sent this concerned mom straight to Richmond County’s Board of
Education. She asked us not to identify her or her child in this story.
“The behavior was very appalling, I mean, I was hurt. I was devastated
by this behavior.”
The video shows her child's math teacher cursing and slamming a jacket
on a desk in front of his students at Glenn Hills Middle School.
She says her child came to her with these concerns back in November.
“I wanted to make sure this was happening before I reported this teacher
because I do understand this is his career.”
But she says it was not until this video that something was done about
it. She says she reached out to the Board of Education and the principal
at Glenn Hills Middle last month.
When asked if she had heard anything back from the officials, she said
no. “No, not until I reached out the second time, and that's when I had
the live footage.”
But the School Board says they were not made aware of the incident until
yesterday.
“So we were made aware of the incident and the video yesterday
afternoon, and we immediately began investigating and made sure the
teacher was pulled out of the classroom,” said Richmond County Board of
Education Spokesperson, Kaden Jacobs.
The Board says that teacher has since been fired, but this mom is making
her message clear. She says something should have been done sooner.
“Listen to the students. Take this seriously. Don’t just throw it under
the back burner and hope it'll get better. Take action.”
The teacher has been fired so as far as the investigation goes, it’s
case closed. |
