The Sevierville police reported that their
organization teamed up with Sevier County to investigate potential
threats to area schools.
On Sunday, the Sevierville Police Department released information
stating they they, along with the Sevier County Sheriff's Office, the
Sevier County School System and the Attorney General's Office, had been
working together to investigate "suspicious statements and social media
activity regarding school shootings."
According to the SPD, numerous interviews were conducted and no credible
or active threats were discovered.
The police cited one potential threat reported to SPD School Resource
Officers late last week about a "suspicious social media account"
allegedly created by a Sevier County High School student. Police said
they identified a 17-year-old who was then charged with harassment.
Investigators reported that the account contained no threats of violence
and do not believe this was or is a safety concern.
At around 3 p.m., Sevier County Sheriff's Office reported that they were
investigating recent reports of social media threats.
SPD reminds the community to remain aware and to report concerns to law
enforcement. |
