Man Involved In Tuesday's Officer-Involved Shooting In Morristown Facing
Charges After Trying To Torch Wife's Home
A man involved in Tuesday's
officer-involved shooting in Morristown now faces charges.
52-year-old Lanny Carroll has been charged with criminal attempt to
commit aggravated burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, and
criminal attempt to commit aggravated arson after his estranged wife
told police he tried to forcibly enter her home through the back kitchen
window that she had previously barricaded.
Carroll's wife told police he tried to set the home on fire and
threatened to "burn them up." She also said she was in the home with her
bedridden father at the time of the incident.
The Morristown Police Department said officers responded to the reports
of a domestic situation at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Once at the Dedra Street
home in west Morristown, officers observed Carroll trying to climb
through a window in the home.
Officers allegedly told Carroll to stop and show his hands, and he
initially complied but later pulled away and grabbed a gun. Police said
an officer shot Carroll in the chest.
Carroll was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment. A representative
with the Morristown Police Department said Carroll's injuries are
believed to be not life threatening. No officers were injured in the
incident.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was on the scene Tuesday
investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Investigators said
additional charges could be filed at a later time.
