CBS affiliate WTVF reports one 17-year-old
student was injured in a shooting outside Pearl Cohn High School in
Nashville.
WTVF reports the shooting took place at 26th Avenue North and Albion
Street near the school on Friday afternoon, just after school was let
out.
Students said they heard multiple shots fired outside the school, and
officials said two school resource officers heard the shots and ran
outside to assist the victim.
Nashville Fire Department officials said the victim was shot in the
back. Family members identified the victim as DeMario Crowder. WTVF said
the victim is a former Pearl Cohn student and a current W.A. Bass
Learning Center student.
Police said Crowder appeared to run toward a cream-colored Chrysler 300
with black rims after he was shot. WTVF reports the Chrysler was stolen
Friday morning from a residence, and the car had been left running,
unattended and unlocked.
Police said it didn't appear to be a suspect vehicle as Crowder may have
actually been running to the car in an effort to receive help, but the
driver fled the scene, and the vehicle had not been recovered as of
Friday night.
Family members told WTVF Crowder was taken to Vanderbilt University
Medical Center, where he was considered to be in critical condition and
underwent surgery. Family said he was "not doing well in surgery."
Officials said a suspect had not been taken into custody as of Friday
afternoon, but officials said the suspected shooter ran away in the
direction of 25th Avenue and Albion Street. |
