The owner of a stolen truck that had his
deceased mother's dog inside told a local news outlet that the dog and
truck were both found Friday.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office helped John Roberts in the frantic
search. Roberts said the sheriff's office found his truck, and that he
and the dog have been reunited.
John Roberts called 911 just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday to report that
his truck had been stolen from the Weigel's at 3104 W. Governor John
Sevier Highway. Roberts told investigators he had been in the gas
station for only a few minutes before returning to the parking lot to
discover that his truck had been stolen.
According to a police report, Roberts left the vehicle unlocked and
running because a dog was inside. Roberts told Local 8 News that he
drove around all night trying to find the truck because the dog, Lulu,
holds a very special place in his heart.
"(Lulu) meant the world to (my mother). She was with my mom for the last
three years of life, she made my momma stop talk about dying," said
Roberts. "I promise I'd spoil her for the rest of her life."
KCSO said officers spotted the truck around 3 a.m. Friday on Magazine
Road and initiated a short pursuit before losing sight of the vehicle.
According to KCSO, a woman on Government Farm Road called KCSO Friday
morning to report the truck had been abandoned in her driveway, and a
dog was inside the truck.
Officers said when they arrived at the scene, they found Lulu safe,
although she was a little thirsty.
On Friday afternoon, KCSO said the investigation was ongoing. |
