CROCKETT/MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) --
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said Wednesday a sergeant was
asking the public for help identifying the people responsible for
illegally killing and dumping 92 birds in West Tennessee.
TWRA said the dead birds included various songbirds, game birds, one
Canada goose and a chicken.
TWRA said the birds were shot and dumped near the Crockett/Madison
County line within the last week.
On Friday, PETA announced the organization would be joining TWRA in the
investigation, offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the
arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the birds'
deaths.
"Someone got sick kicks out of killing birds and dumping their bodies on
the side of the road like litter," PETA Vice President Colleen O'Brien
said. "PETA and Tennessee wildlife authorities need the public's help to
find whoever is responsible before anyone else, including other animals,
is hurt."
Anyone with information about the killing and dumping was asked to call
the TWRA Region 1 office at 731-423-5725, the poaching hotline at
1-800-831-1173, or send a Facebook message to the TWRA page.
