Sunday. According to the
department's twitter account, Elijah Bowman was arrested Monday night
without incident. Investigators said they are still looking for
additional suspects.
Knoxville police responded to the shooting in North West Knoxville on
Sunday in the 6000 block of Western Ave. around 8:15 p.m.
Investigators said two men and one woman were shot. Denise Stevens,
Abdul Tahir, and Deantrea Woods were transported to UT Medical Center
for treatment. Stevens was pronounced dead after arriving at UT Medical
Center. Tahir and Woods were treated and released from the hospital.
A Local 8 News crew on the scene said they saw three ambulances leave
the scene and a man limping toward an ambulance before KPD brought in
K-9's to sweep the home.
KPD confirmed there were children present but none were injured.
While waiting on the aunt to arrive, the Local 8 News crew saw first
responders playing with the children, making them balloon animals out of
latex gloves and giving them a tour of a fire truck.
According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting was not a
random incident.
Neighbors like Larry Headrick said they heard a commotion of police and
ambulances, but never gunshots.
"I told my wife, 'No, it's probably on down towards the other end of
Western,'" he recalled. "And then she called back and said, 'No, it was
right next door."
Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to give them a
call at 865-215-7212. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the
KPD Facebook page @KnoxvillePD. |
