Law enforcement officials stand watch at University of Tennessee Medical
Center after a Knox County deputy was shot in the line of duty.
Officials told our Local 8 News crew to park on the top floor of the
parking garage at U.T. Medical Center because the lower levels were
reserved for officers coming for support.
The Major Crimes Unit reported that the deputy was shot in the arm and a
suspect was shot in the shoulder and that both were taken by ambulance
to U.T. Medical Center. The officer was reportedly in stable condition.
The suspect’s condition was not known.
Local 8 News Reporter Chynna Greene reported at least 50 officers coming
and going at University of Tennessee Medical Center. She said the campus
blocked off parts of a parking garage to accommodate law enforcement
officials arriving to stand watch.
The deputy was responding to 115 Noe Hill Lane off Asheville Hwy. on an
attempted suicide call when investigators said the suspect shot the
deputy and the deputy returned fire.
