Dan Bongino: Had FBI Texts Between Agents In 2017 Happened In 2008, Nation Would Have Exploded

Former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino reacted on "Fox & Friends Weekend" to newly-uncovered text messages between two high-ranking officials in the FBI.

As FoxNews.com reported:

That text was revealed on Tuesday night when the Justice Department released hundreds of messages between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who were romantically involved and at one point worked on Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

“I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andy’s office - that there’s no way he gets elected - but I’m afraid we can’t take that risk,” Strzok texted on Aug. 15, 2016. “It’s like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you’re 40.”

Some lawmakers surmise "Andy" is a reference to Andrew McCabe, and now want to know about his communications with Page and Strzok.
Bongino said that if true, there were Department of Justice officials who were plotting against a top-tier candidate in a presidential election.

"There is something wrong with plotting to take action to take down... a candidate," he said. "If that was an email about Barack Obama in 2008, this country would've rightfully exploded."

Bongino said that he left the Secret Service after a lengthy career in law enforcement that also included the NYPD because he wanted to be able to be politically active.

Bongino subsequently ran twice for federal office in Maryland, first against Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D) and later against Rep. John Delaney (D) of Potomac.

He said that the federal government has "a monopoly on power" and therefore federal agents shouldn't be able to use it for political purposes.

"It's not about opinions," it's about actions, he said.
