After an investigation by Knoxville
police, a man confessed to eight recent robberies in a downtown parking
garage.
An investigator with the Knoxville Police Department was looking into a
robbery that happened in a downtown parking garage when he sent out an
internal bulletin with a security camera picture and possible name of a
suspect.
A crime analyst with the department looked into the possible suspect and
found the real culprit was likely 25-year-old Xavier Townes, who had "a
history or robbing individuals," according to KPD.
When the KPD investigator featured Townes in a line-up presented to a
robbery victim, Townes was positively identified as the suspect.
On Thursday, Oct. 26, an interview of Townes resulted in his confession
of eight of the open robberies that recently happened in the downtown
area.
Townes is being held at the Knox County Detention Facility on charges of
theft of merchandise - shoplifting, assault and aggravated robbery. KPD
said multiple robbery charges are pending in addition to a violation of
probation charge. |
