Jim Haslam, founder of the Pilot
Corporation, has been named as the recipient of the 2018 Pat Summitt
Lifetime Achievement Award, according to the Tennessee Sports Hall of
Fame.
The award is presented to the person who best exemplifies the character
of Pat Summitt throughout their life.
Haslam is a 1952 graduate of the University of Tennessee. He was
starting tackle on the UT football team in 1950-52 and captain of the
1952 team. He was also commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers in 1952, serving on active duty from 1953 to
1955 doing a tour of duty in Korea.
The Pilot Corporation founder has also served as a trustee for UT,
chairman of the board of the Greater Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and
United Way of Greater Knoxville. As a strong believer of giving back to
the community, Haslam founded the Haslam Family Foundation, which has
contributed millions of dollars to charitable organizations.
The award will be presented at the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame 52nd
Annual Induction Banquet on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the
Omni-Nashville Hotel. |
