LUBBOCK, Tex. (CBS DFW)
- A Texas Tech police officer was fatally shot in the head by a student
Monday night, according to a campus spokesperson.
Campus police were making a welfare check on 19-year-old Hollis Daniels.
When they entered the room, they found drug paraphernalia, according to
the statement from the University. When officers were taking Daniels to
the station for questioning, he pulled out a gun and fatally shot an
officer in the head.
One student, Lainey La Rue Garner was inside her dorm and watched SWAT
officers swarm outside.
“I locked my doors, locked my door, I even put a couch in front of my
door just in case, because, all of these cops are outside of my dorm
specifically, so that was kind of freaky,” said Garner.
Daniels fled on foot and was at-large for at least an hour after the
shooting. The campus was on lockdown until he was caught.
