Special Agents with the
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation found information that resulted in a
Jellico man's indictment on a number of charges, including aggravated
assault and reckless endangerment.
On August 24, TBI agents began investigating the circumstances
surrounding an officer-involved shooting that happened along South
Myrtle Street in Jellico. Investigators found Deron Ausmus, 38, showed
up at the Jellico Police Department and pointed a gun at a dispatcher.
Ausmus then fled into a nearby neighborhood, and he was found at a home
on South Myrtle Street.
Officials said when Ausmus came out of the residence, he confronted
officers with a gun. Two officers fired shots that struck Ausmus. He was
transported to UT Medical Center, where he received treatment for his
injuries.
This week, the Campbell County Grand Jury returned indictments charging
Ausmus with four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of reckless
endangerment with a deadly weapon, one count of prohibited weapons, and
one count of simple possession.
On Friday, Ausmus was served in the Knox County Jail, where he was being
held on unrelated charges. |
