One man is in custody after authorities
were called to the Tennessee River for a possible drowning in West
Knoxville Saturday.
Investigators said Rural Metro Fire Department was called to the river
around 8 p.m. for reports that a young man was struggling to swim in the
water.
Officials said a witness managed to give, who deputies identified as
24-year-old Andrew Stewart, a life preserver but later realized Stewart
disappeared, thinking he drowned.
Crews deployed boats to search for Stewart, who was found on shore in
the life preserver.
Once back on land, the Stewart was questioned and investigators realized
he was wanted by the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
KCSO charged Stewart with domestic assault on his girlfriend at a
residence on Kara Lane before 7 p.m. Saturday. SOURCE: WVLT
