GSMNP officials released information on
road and facility closures in anticipation of Hurricane Irma
On Monday, the park announced Newfound Gap Road and Little River Road
would close at 5 p.m. due to high winds moving through the area
associated with Hurricane Irma. The park said the area had experienced
rain and strong winds across ridges of the higher elevations throughout
the day Monday.
Sugarlands Visitor Center, Oconaluftee Visitor Center and Administrative
facilities closed at noon Monday. The Spur and Bypass remained open as
of Monday afternoon.
Alum Cave Trail was also scheduled to close on Monday.
More closures may be necessary as the storm progresses.
