High Winds, Heavy Rain Bands To Effect East Tn Through Tuesday AM; High Wind Advisory Till 11AM

A WEATHER ALERT is in effect now through Tuesday morning, as we deal with waves of rain and gusty winds from Tropical Storm Irma. Wind speeds are increasing this evening with gusts between 30 and 50 miles per hour and with the highest speeds in the higher elevations. Some trees and limbs could come down, so a few power outages may occur. A Wind Advisory includes all of East Tennessee until 11 a.m. Tuesday.

...Windy Conditions will develop across East Tennessee, southwest North Carolina, and southwest Virginia today... .The remnants of Hurricane Irma are expected to move NW across Alabama and Georgia...with windy conditions developing this afternoon and continuing into Tuesday morning. North to northeasterly winds will be 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph possible in the Tennessee Valley. In addition, wind gusts of over 50 mph will be possible in the highest peaks of the southern Appalachian Mountains. ...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM EDT /10 AM CDT/ TUESDAY...

* EVENT...North to northeasterly winds between 15 and 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph across East Tennessee and southwest Virginia

* TIMING...This afternoon through Tuesday morning

* IMPACTS...The windy conditions may down trees, branches and power lines. Driving high profile vehicles in these conditions will be difficult.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 26 to 39 mph and/or gusts of 40 to 57 mph are expected or occurring. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
