As Hurricane Irma approaches the U.S.
mainland, millions are expected to flee Florida, meanwhile East
Tennesseans open their homes.
Pastor Mike Waters of Sixth Avenue Church of God said his church youth
had requested prayer for anyone in the path of hurricane Irma Wednesday
night. The prayers were also personal as Waters son Josh was evacuating
with his wife and children.
"They said it's crazy there, the shelves are empty and that people are
panicking," said Waters.
Waters said he has prepared his home to make room for his son's family.
"It's gonna be an adjustment for a few days, but it's family. It's
probably gonna be crazy leaving there. He's scared and the family is
scared," said Waters.
Meanwhile, across town Rachel Jordan said she also is preparing her home
for friends who may decide to evacuate, too.
"We just want to make sure we are ready so they can come if they need to
leave fast, somewhere that won't cost them an arm and a leg," said
Jordan.
Jordan explained in times like this, helping others is just something
she was taught to do.
"I was always told to help people and do what needs to be done and if
this is something I can do, than it's what I'll do," said Jordan.
For the Waters family, they said they will continue to pray as Irma
draws closer.
