WASHINGTON D.C. (CBS) -- Graffiti has been
discovered on the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.
"[Expletive] law" was spray painted in red on the one of the columns of
the monument early Tuesday morning, according to CBS affiliate WUSA-TV
reports.
The National Park Police said a preservation crew was working to remove
the graffiti, using a mild, gel-type paint stripper that's safe for use
on the historic stone.
The preservation crew will re-evaluate the stone after each application
of the paint stripper, re-applying the treatment as necessary until the
graffiti is removed.
It's not the only act of vandalism reported in Washington D.C., either.
Silver spray paint was found on a Smithsonian sign in the 1400 block of
Constitution Avenue as well, according to NPS.
