U.S. Senator
Bob Corker Calls Charlottesville Attacks "Repugnant"
U.S. Senator Bob Corker made several stops
in East Tennessee on Wednesday, attending a breakfast at the Sevier
County Chamber of Commerce and a luncheon at the Knoxville Chamber of
Commerce.
During his visit to Sevier County, Senator Corker called last weekend's
attack in Charlottesville "repugnant" and said "there's no place in our
country for that."
Senator Corker commented on the aftermath of the protests in
Charlottesville, saying "I'm very saddened about what has happened and
saddened that we have divisions like this that end up being so deep and
in this case turned out to be violent."
He also commented on the controversy over a bust of Confederate general
and KKK founder Nathan Bedford Forrest at the Tennessee State Capitol.
Senator Corker said if he could vote on the matter, he "would vote to
move that bust to a museum and replace it with another symbol that
doesn't offend people's sensibilities."
