GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) – One person was
arrested and multiple suspects are still on the run after a police chase
in Sevier County.
Gatlinburg police say a silver Lexus GS400 was seen almost hitting
pedestrians in a marked crosswalk near the Light 3 intersection downtown
around 8:44 p.m.
Police tried to stop the vehicle as it continued to drive “erratically
and aggressively.” However, the driver fled onto Historic Nature Trail.
The chase was terminated due to high volumes of pedestrian and traffic.
Police believe the Lexus along with a red Chevrolet Cobalt transferred
occupants inside the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.
The Lexus attempted to run over officers at a roadblock and passed them,
according to the report. Police continued the chase on Highway 321,
however, the pursuit was terminated.
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office was not able to stop the Lexus when
seeing it on Highway 416.
