Two Roane County Brothers Use Bible To Sneak Drugs Into County Jail

Sheriff's deputies say  two Roane county brothers are accused of using a bible to sneak drugs into the county jail.

And this isn't the first time this has happened in East Tennessee.

We reported a similar incident with a different suspect back in September of 2016 when a Monroe County jail found more than just pages inside a Bible.

This time, 38-year-old Alvin Sampson and his 43-year-old brother James are charged with bringing contraband into the Roane County jail.

The sheriff's office said the drugs were delivered to an inmate, Amanda Sampson, who just happens to be the younger brother's wife.

Jailers said another inmate warned them of meth coming into the jail, so they searched through Amanda's belongings and found some white powder folded into the pages of a bible.

And the Holy Book isn't the only way people have tried to sneak in drugs before.

Chief Jeb Brown, the Monroe County jail administrator said, "Slippers, Crocs, stuff of that nature; they will try to split the soles and tape on the inside of the soles."

Sgt. Billy Littleton said, "They're not in here for making the smartest choices, but they can still be smart trying to get stuff in, so we've got to be one step ahead."

Now all three of them are in custody. The suspects were arrested July 17
