Former House Speaker: Clinton Crimes Being Pushed Under Rug
One reporter characterized the meeting as an "intervention" with Trump in which Gingrich reiterated his stance that the president should not fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Gingrich laughed at the description,
saying he doesn't believe anyone does "interventions" with Trump.
He called it a very good meeting and said they were "candid with each
other" about the situation involving Sessions and special counsel Robert
Mueller's investigation.
Gingrich said the president remains frustrated with the investigations
into his alleged ties to Russia, while the Clintons' ties are not
subject to the same scrutiny.
"He correctly thinks it's extraordinarily one-sided. You have lots of
evidence about the Clintons, all of which has been pushed under the rug,
even by the Republican Congress and then you have this witch hunt by
Mueller," said Gingrich, calling for a more "balanced" probe by Congress
and the Justice Department.
Gingrich said there are elements within the Justice Department that are
corrupt, out of control and "very left-wing."
