The Knoxville Police Department said
Friday officers were investigating a serious crash that happened on
Interstate 40 eastbound near the ramp to Interstate 275 north.
On Friday night, KPD said at approximately 4:47 p.m., officers responded
to a report of a multi-vehicle crash on I-40 eastbound near downtown
Knoxville. When officers arrived at the scene, they found that the
driver of a 2004 Toyota Rav 4 had experienced some type of medical
condition that caused him to strike both the inside and outside walls of
the interstate, along with two other vehicles, before coming to a stop
against a wall.
KPD said the driver was transported to Tennova Hospital, where he was
pronounced dead.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
Investigators were continuing the investigation as of Friday night, and
no names were released as next of kin had not yet been notified. |
