TBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In Morristown

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation sent agents to a reported officer-involved shooting in Morristown on Thursday.

Authorities are currently on the scene of the shooting in the 400 block of Hayter Drive. TBI agents were requested to respond to the scene by 3rd District Attorney General Dan Armstrong.

According to the Morristown Police Department, Morristown officers saw a man wanted on "several" outstanding warrants sitting in a vehicle on Hayter Drive at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning. The police department said the man rammed his Mercury Grand Marquis into officers' vehicles in an attempt to escape. Officials said there were officers inside the vehicle and on foot at the time trying to help with the arrest.

During the escape attempt, Morristown authorities said an officer fired his .357 handgun, hitting the suspect in the leg and lower abdomen. Police said a tactical medic started attending to the suspect's wounds until an ambulance arrived on the scene to take the suspect to UT Medical Center.

The TBI said additional details would be released "as soon as possible."
